Cairo, Egypt – The Italian government has affirmed its firm position against participating in any military operations against Iran, preferring to pursue diplomatic solutions to de-escalate rising tensions in the Middle East. Italian officials explained that Rome is coordinating intensively with its European and international partners to prevent the conflict from widening, considering the absolute current priority to be the maintenance of regional stability and the protection of international navigation and trade security.
Rejecting Military Escalation and Focusing on De-escalation
Italy emphasized that the outbreak of new military confrontations would directly threaten international security, stressing the need for restraint and prioritizing dialogue. These Italian statements come in light of the accelerating pace of security developments in the region over the past few weeks, which impose new challenges on global energy security.
In pursuit of stability, Italy announced the launch of a joint initiative with France to support Lebanon. This move aims to assist the Lebanese state in facing a series of stifling economic, humanitarian, and security crises, with a specific focus on strengthening state institutions to enable them to fulfill their national responsibilities.
Political and Economic Support to Face Crises
The European initiative includes mobilizing intensive political and economic support for Lebanon, in addition to encouraging all local parties to move forward with implementing necessary structural reforms. These efforts aim to improve living conditions for citizens and enhance the state’s ability to tackle the successive challenges the country has witnessed for years.
Rome and Paris emphasized that ensuring Lebanon’s stability is a strategic priority for the European Union. This step is part of broader international efforts aimed at isolating the internal Lebanese situation from the repercussions of regional crises and ensuring it does not slide into instability due to surrounding tensions.
International Calls for Prioritizing Political Solutions
The Italian-French move aligns with growing international calls to contain crises in the Middle East through diplomatic channels. This European convergence reflects a desire to provide tangible assistance to countries most affected by unrest, mirroring a strategic vision that regional stability depends fundamentally on the cohesion of its institutions and avoiding choices of military confrontation.
