Houston, USA – Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of the Portuguese national team, spoke about his country’s great victory over Uzbekistan in the 2026 World Cup. He confirmed that the criticism the team has recently faced has not affected its focus or the unity of the group.
The Portuguese national team achieved a resounding victory over their Uzbekistani counterparts, winning 5-0. The match was part of the second round of Group K in the 2026 World Cup.
Ronaldo told FIFA’s official website: “We’ve had a very difficult week, and we’ve been subjected to harsh criticism, especially me personally, but after more than two decades in the world of football I know very well how to deal with such things.”
He added: “What’s most important to me is the team, that we maintain our cohesion and stay close to our families, these are things we can control. As for what is said from the outside, we cannot control it. We are well aware that criticism comes out when we do not perform at the required level, and this is something I have become accustomed to throughout my career.”
The Portugal captain concluded by saying: “Scoring in the World Cup is always an exceptional feeling, but my primary goal remains helping the team achieve its objectives and progress further in the tournament.”
