Tehran, Iran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, during a phone call or talks with his Russian counterpart, stressed the need for an immediate halt to Israel’s repeated attacks on Lebanese territory. He emphasized that the continuation of this escalation would exacerbate tensions in the region and threaten broader regional security and stability.
According to diplomatic sources, the talks addressed developments in Lebanon and the Middle East. The Iranian side also presented its view on the need for the international community to take more effective action to curb Israeli military operations. Furthermore, it stressed the importance of containing the escalating tensions on Lebanon’s southern border.
The sources added that Araqchi stressed that continued attacks in Lebanon could lead to a wider confrontation. This, according to Tehran, necessitates a clearer international stance to halt what it described as an uncontrolled escalation.
For its part, the Russian side emphasized during the talks the importance of restraint and avoiding a slide into a full-blown confrontation in the region. It also stressed that political and diplomatic solutions remain the best option for addressing the current tensions. It affirmed the continuation of consultations with the relevant parties.
This move comes amid escalating tensions on the Lebanese scene in recent times. There are international concerns that the limited clashes could transform into a wider conflict that would affect the stability of the entire region.
