Damascus, Syria – Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa denied allegations of Syrian interference in Lebanese affairs, stressing that Damascus is committed to respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and its independent national decision-making. He rejected accusations of a Syrian role in political or security developments within Lebanese territory.

Al-Sharaa explained that relations between Syria and Lebanon are based on mutual respect and shared interests. He also noted that the Syrian government is keen to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields to serve the stability of the region and the interests of both brotherly nations.

He added that the allegations of Syrian interference in Lebanon are unfounded and lack any factual basis, emphasizing that Damascus is currently focused on reconstruction, development, and strengthening internal stability. In addition, it is working to develop its regional and international relations.

The Syrian president indicated that his country supports all efforts aimed at preserving Lebanon’s security and stability. He believes in the importance of dialogue among the various Lebanese political forces to address the political and economic challenges facing the country, free from any external interference.

These statements come amidst recent political and media discussions in Lebanon regarding the nature of relations between the two countries and the role of regional actors in Lebanese domestic affairs. This prompted Syrian officials to reiterate their position calling for respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.

Observers believe that Syrian-Lebanese relations are entering a new phase based on strengthening cooperation in economic and security matters, border issues, and trade. At the same time, both governments are working to address shared challenges in a way that achieves stability and development.

In concluding his remarks, al-Sharaa emphasized that Syria looks forward to continued coordination and cooperation with Lebanon within the framework of the fraternal and historical ties that bind the two countries. He also stressed the full commitment to the principles of good neighborliness and respect for the national sovereignty of each state.
