Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned the misleading media campaigns targeting the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, stressing that these practices contradict the professional principles of journalism. He added that they contribute to the dissemination of inaccurate information that could negatively impact regional stability and understanding among peoples.

The Secretary-General clarified that the GCC states reject attempts at media distortion or the broadcasting of false news targeting any member state. He also emphasized the importance of adhering to credibility and objectivity and verifying information before publishing or circulating it across various media and digital platforms.

He affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stands united against any attempts to target the security and stability of its member states or to sow discord, noting that Gulf solidarity is a fundamental pillar in confronting the growing regional and international challenges.

Observers believe that the increasing influence of digital platforms and the rapid spread of information pose significant challenges to governments and media institutions. For this reason, promoting a culture of fact-checking and combating disinformation is becoming an increasing priority for maintaining stability and strengthening trust in information sources.

The Secretary-General concluded his remarks by emphasizing the importance of responsible media in supporting development and fostering rapprochement among peoples, calling for the utilization of modern media to disseminate facts and promote the values of dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among nations and societies.
