Tel Aviv, Israel – As part of its ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army and the General Security Service (Shin Bet) announced the liquidation of prominent leaders of the Hamas movement during raids targeting the south of the Strip last week.
This step comes in the context of the army’s ongoing efforts to eliminate field threats.
Elimination of the elite unit commander
The Israel army announced in a statement on its X platform the killing of Saqr Abu Karim, describing him as a commander in an elite Hamas unit.
The statement explained that Abu Karim participated in the incursion targeting the Kissufim area during the October 7, 2023 attacks.
It also indicated that he continued to plan attacks against Israeli forces throughout the war.
The army claimed that Abu Karim’s location contained weapons used for reorganizing
and training Hamas operatives. Furthermore, the army accused him of violating the latest ceasefire agreement.
The statement confirmed that the operation also resulted in the death of another Hamas operative, who worked in communications.
An airstrike targeted Muhannad Farwana
In a related development, the Israel army announced earlier today the elimination of another operative,
Muhannad Othman Farwana, in a precise airstrike targeting him in the southern Gaza Strip.
An army spokesperson stated in an official statement that Farwana was leading a cell within Hamas’s military wing.
She also confirmed that he had been directly and continuously involved in recent weeks
in planning and executing attacks against Israeli forces operating in the Gaza Strip.
These announcements come as the Israeli army’s Southern Command continues to reinforce its deployment in the southern Gaza Strip.
The forces are conducting a series of military operations aimed at undermining Hamas’s military infrastructure
and dismantling field cells belonging to the movement’s military wing.
This is part of a broader strategy pursued by Tel Aviv since the outbreak of war last October.
Hamas has not yet issued an immediate comment on these Israeli announcements regarding the killing of field commanders.
