Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that Iran is using Lebanon as a bargaining chip in its talks with the United States.

He added that regional developments are directly impacting the political and security situation in Lebanon.

Repercussions of regional conflicts

In an interview with CNN, Aoun affirmed that Lebanon has been affected by regional conflicts and rivalries in recent years.

He noted that many issues related to the internal situation are now influenced by the balances

and negotiations taking place between regional and international powers.

The Lebanese president explained that Lebanon’s location has made it vulnerable to the repercussions of the crises plaguing the region.

Consequently, this has impacted its political, economic, and security stability.

He added that the continued entanglement of the Lebanese arena in regional conflicts poses significant challenges for the Lebanese state.

This affects its efforts to address internal crises and achieve stability.

Emphasizing the priority of the national interest

Aoun stressed the importance of prioritizing Lebanon’s interests above all other considerations.

He emphasized the necessity of keeping the country neutral from regional conflicts as much as possible.

He noted that the Lebanese state is striving to strengthen its institutions and consolidate its sovereignty.

This will help it confront various challenges and maintain security and stability.

The Lebanese president affirmed that the current phase requires internal cooperation

and international support to help Lebanon overcome its accumulated crises.

He explained that the country’s stability is a shared interest for Lebanon and the entire region.

These statements come amidst ongoing regional tensions.

Negotiations are also underway concerning a number of sensitive issues in the Middle East,

which are casting a shadow over the Lebanese scene.
