  • Cultural and scientific responsibility

Cairo, Egypt – The Arab Archaeologists Union announced a specialized scientific

course entitled “Manuscripts: Between the Arts of Writing and Applied Sciences.”

This initiative is part of the Union’s efforts to raise awareness of the value of Arabic and Islamic manuscripts.

The course aims to highlight the role of manuscripts in documenting scientific and cultural heritage throughout the ages.

The course seeks to introduce researchers and students to manuscript

writing methods and the evolution of writing techniques.

It will also explore the knowledge contained within manuscripts in medicine,

astronomy, engineering, mathematics, chemistry,

and other fields. These sciences flourished in Arab and Islamic civilization.

The development of human knowledge

The academic program includes a series of lectures and specialized workshops

presented by leading professors of archaeology, restoration, and manuscripts.

The lectures discuss methods for reading and verifying manuscripts, as well as mechanisms

for their preservation and maintenance using the latest scientific techniques.

The course also highlights the importance of manuscripts as historical

and scientific documents reflecting the development of human knowledge.

It further explores their role in the transmission of knowledge between civilizations

and reviews the major challenges facing restoration and preservation

processes in light of the passage of time and environmental factors.

Cultural and scientific responsibility

The organizers of the course emphasized that preserving manuscripts is a cultural and scientific responsibility,

given the rare information they contain that contributes to understanding the history of science and the arts.

They also noted that these intellectual treasures continue to be

an important resource for researchers and historians in various disciplines.

The course is part of a series of scientific activities organized

by the Union of Arab Archaeologists to support scientific research and develop the skills of specialists.

It also seeks to promote interest in Arab cultural heritage, contributing to

its preservation and transmission to future generations.
