Amman, Jordan – The Jordanian government reiterated its rejection of settlement activity in the West Bank, emphasizing that settlement expansion violates international law and undermines the rights of the Palestinian people. It also stressed that settlement activity jeopardizes the prospects for a just and comprehensive political settlement to the conflict.
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement that settlement activity in the Palestinian territories constitutes a major obstacle to peace efforts. It emphasized the necessity of halting all measures that alter the reality on the ground or undermine the prospects for establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Amman clarified that protecting Palestinian rights and preserving the prospects for peace require adherence to relevant international resolutions and respect for international law. It also stressed the need to refrain from any unilateral actions that could lead to further tension and instability in the region.
The statement indicated that Jordan continues its diplomatic contacts with regional and international parties to support Palestinian rights. It added that this contributes to the resumption of the political process, which will ensure security and stability for all the peoples of the region.
Jordan’s stance comes amid escalating international debate over settlement expansion in the West Bank, with growing international calls for steps to preserve the prospects for a political solution and prevent further deterioration of the situation on the ground.
Observers believe that Jordan, given its geographical location and historical role in the Palestinian issue, continues to emphasize the importance of reaching a political settlement based on the two-state solution. This is considered the most realistic path to achieving lasting peace and ending the decades-long conflict.
Amman consistently affirms that regional stability is directly linked to finding a just solution to the Palestinian question. It has also stressed that this solution must guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and achieve security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
