Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a move reflecting close regional solidarity in the face of cross-border threats, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Monday condemned in the strongest terms the continued Iranian missile and drone attacks that recently targeted Kuwaiti territory.
A dangerous escalation and a threat to stability
In official press statements, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, expressed the Council’s unequivocal condemnation of these practices, describing them as “a dangerous and irresponsible escalation.”
Al-Budaiwi emphasized that these attacks are not merely acts of aggression on the ground, but rather “a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait” and a clear breach of all international laws, conventions, and norms. These laws, he stated, guarantee the safety and independence of states.
The Secretary-General noted that the continuation of this aggressive approach poses a direct and sustained threat to the security and stability of the entire region. Furthermore, he stressed that the situation necessitates international action to deter such violations, which undermine efforts to reduce tensions and enhance regional security.
“Kuwait’s security is an integral part of our security.”
In a strong and direct message of solidarity, Al-Budaiwi emphasized that the security of the State of Kuwait is a fundamental pillar and an integral part of the collective security system of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
He affirmed that the GCC states stand united and unwavering in their support of Kuwait. He expressed the Council’s full and absolute support for all sovereign measures and actions taken by the Kuwaiti authorities to protect their national security. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of preserving Kuwait’s sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its territory, citizens, and vital infrastructure.
This unified Gulf stance comes at a sensitive time, as the region experiences escalating tensions. Hostile attacks intersect with broader security challenges in the Middle East. This condemnation underscores the Gulf states’ commitment to the principle of collective defense and close security coordination. Furthermore, there are international calls for restraint and a halt to hostilities that threaten shipping lanes and vital infrastructure.
This step reflects the cohesion of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in the face of challenges targeting its member states. The GCC Secretariat General affirmed that coordination with Kuwait is ongoing to monitor developments on the ground. Furthermore, it emphasized that any attack on any member state is an attack on the entire GCC. This opens the door to intensive political and diplomatic options to exert pressure to halt these provocations.
