Washington, DC – The White House has settled the debate regarding US President Donald Trump’s attendance at the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium. The White House confirmed his participation in the highly anticipated event.
White House spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt announced that Trump would attend the World Cup final, marking his first appearance at the tournament. This comes after his absence from all matches played since the start of the competition.
Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), had previously revealed that the American President would participate in the champion’s coronation ceremony. He will stand by his side to hand the World Cup to the winning team after the end of the match.
In comments reported by Tribune, Levitt described the United States hosting the final as a perfect ending to a tournament that showcased the country’s ability to organize major global sporting events. She said, “It’s a fitting conclusion to a tournament that demonstrated America’s capacity to host the world on its grandest stages”.
The White House spokeswoman declined to reveal which team Trump would support in the final, saying only: “I don’t know which team he will support”.
Trump’s anticipated attendance comes amid the intense interest surrounding the final match. The game pits Argentina, who qualified after defeating England 2-1 in the semi-final, against Spain, who reached the final by beating France 2-0.
