Tehran, Iran — The Iranian Tasnim News Agency has denied the validity of Western media reports claiming the finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Furthermore, the agency emphasized that the text of the potential agreement has neither been finalized nor officially confirmed yet.
Iranian Denial of Western Claims
The agency quoted a source close to the Iranian negotiating team stating that recent circulation regarding a final accord between Tehran and Washington is “incorrect.” Moreover, the source stressed that diplomatic discussions remain ongoing. Several core details and pivotal issues have not yet been fully resolved or agreed upon.
Pakistani Mediator Not Officially Notified
Tasnim reported that Iran has not yet notified the Pakistani mediator of the completion of the agreement’s draft text. Also, Tehran emphasized it will officially announce any final understanding as soon as it is concluded, both to the international mediator and to the public. This signals that the negotiation draft is still a work in progress. It has not reached its definitive form.
Ambiguity Clouds the Future of Talks
These statements from Tehran come in the wake of reports discussing an initial understanding between Washington and Tehran. This understanding allegedly includes extending a ceasefire and opening a wider negotiation path within 60 days. Consequently, political observers view the Iranian denial as a reflection of persistent, deep-seated divergences between the two sides on fundamental issues. Most notably, these include economic sanctions, the nuclear file, and regional security arrangements. The ultimate outcome of these talks remains highly uncertain.
