Moscow, Russia – In a precise preemptive operation, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Friday that it had thwarted an attempt to carry out a terrorist act in the coastal city of Novorossiysk, targeting a passenger train, as part of the security services’ efforts to counter subversive activities.
Details of the operation and communication via “Telegram”
The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced in an official statement that a Russian citizen, born in 1993, was arrested for planning the attack on a railway line under direct orders from Ukrainian intelligence.
The statement explained that the suspect voluntarily contacted a representative of the Ukrainian Security Service via Telegram, receiving specific instructions to plant an explosive device on the railway and target a passing passenger train.
Frustration of the plan in its final stages
Intelligence investigations revealed that the suspect demonstrated “full involvement” in carrying out the mission. He studied the technical instructions he was provided, acquired the necessary materials to manufacture the explosive device, and successfully prepared and stored it in his home.
The arrest coincided with the suspect’s presence at the railway site, where he was conducting final reconnaissance in preparation for the attack. This prevented any loss of life or damage to the infrastructure.
Criminal investigations track
Following the operation, the Russian authorities opened a criminal investigation under the article relating to “preparation of a terrorist act,” and the competent authorities began extensive interrogations to uncover all the details of the network supporting the accused, and to identify all foreign parties involved in supervising this scheme.
heightened security vigilance in light of the threats
This incident comes amid escalating Russian security warnings about attempts by external actors to target strategic infrastructure deep within Russia, with officials emphasizing the vigilance of their security services in thwarting these threats before they materialize.
This operation represents a significant blow to security breaches aimed at destabilizing Russian cities, particularly vital facilities essential for the movement of citizens.
