Beirut, Lebanon – The southern front in Lebanon is witnessing a rapid and unprecedented escalation on the ground, with intense airstrikes coinciding with Israeli political and security threats. This has led to a state of high tension in various villages and towns.
Targeting ambulance crews and vital facilities
On the ground, an Israeli drone carried out a precision strike targeting a medical point belonging to the Islamic Health Authority in the town of Maaroub, resulting—according to initial reports—in one fatality and one injury.
In a related development, airstrikes targeted the Islamic Health Authority center in Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in the Tyre district. Artillery shelling also targeted the vicinity of Beaufort Castle in Arnoun, the Dbeibine area, and the town of Abba.
A series of raids on Nabatieh and its district
This morning, Friday, Israeli warplanes intensified their heavy airstrikes, targeting a series of towns in the Nabatieh district. The strikes hit Kfar Remman, Zibdine, Ain Qana, Kfarjouz, Mayfadoun, Haboush, and the area surrounding the town of Jbaa. The city of Nabatieh itself was also targeted. This aerial escalation was accompanied by heavy artillery shelling of the towns of Arnoun, Ali Taher, and Kfar Tebnit, further exacerbating the suffering of the residents.
Evacuation warnings and threats of the “Qaraoun Dam”
In a significant development, Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee issued an urgent warning to the residents of the village of Ein Qana, demanding they evacuate their homes and move at least 1,000 meters away.
Adraee claimed these measures were in response to what he called Hezbollah’s “violation of the ceasefire agreement,” holding the group responsible for endangering civilian lives. Meanwhile, a new Israeli threat emerged targeting the Qaraoun Dam. The Israeli army accused Hezbollah of attempting to “damage” the dam and vowed a “strong” response. It also held the Lebanese state directly responsible for protecting this vital and strategic facility.
A difficult night in Marjeyoun
In Marjeyoun, residents endured a harrowing night after the town was shelled, targeting religious and educational sites, including the Church of St. George and a convent school.
These developments on the ground have created a fragile security situation in the region. There are growing fears that the attacks will expand to include civilian facilities and strategic infrastructure. This is happening amidst a complete absence of any prospect for de-escalation and an increasing frequency of Israeli warnings aimed at evacuating residents from villages and towns in southern Lebanon.
