Beirut, Lebanon – The National News Agency reported that two people were killed when Israeli occupation forces targeted a house in the Nabatieh district in southern Lebanon.
This comes amid the latest escalation of violence along the Lebanese border.
Escalation on the ground and violations of the truce
This attack comes amid escalating tensions between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, with continued exchanges of fire along the border.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health had previously reported one death and three injuries in an airstrike on the town of Arab Salim.
Additionally, three non-Lebanese workers were killed in shelling that targeted the Maaliya area in the Tyre district.
Southern Lebanon has witnessed intense Israeli airstrikes in recent days, exceeding 70 in number.
These strikes targeted areas in Tyre and Bint Jbeil, coinciding with widespread artillery shelling.
The attacks have resulted in deaths, injuries, and the destruction of homes and infrastructure.
These attacks constitute a violation of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on April 17th.
The agreement was later extended, amidst mutual accusations of violations.
Military movements and rising casualties
In this context, Lebanese Army Commander Rudolph Haykal met with US General Joseph Clearfield, head of the ceasefire monitoring committee,
to discuss security developments and ways to strengthen the ceasefire monitoring mechanism.
Both sides emphasized the importance of supporting the Lebanese Army in light of the current challenges.
Lebanese authorities announced that at least 17 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in recent days.
Dozens more, including children and women, were wounded in attacks targeting several towns in southern Lebanon.
President Joseph Aoun condemned the ongoing violations, calling on the international
community to exert pressure to stop the attacks and protect civilians.
International calls to contain the escalation continue. Meanwhile, fears are growing
that the situation could spiral into a wider confrontation in the region.
