Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced that the cumulative death toll from military operations and ongoing shelling on Lebanese territory has risen to 3,213 martyrs and 9,737 wounded since the escalation began on March 2, 2026, as of May 26. These updated figures reflect the significant humanitarian repercussions. This situation results from the continued field escalation in various Lebanese regions, particularly in the south.
Health Sector Challenges and Hospital Strain
The Lebanese health sector is facing increasing challenges due to the constant pressure on hospitals and medical centers. This is especially true in areas near hotspots. Furthermore, medical teams, ambulance services, and emergency responders are operating at maximum capacity to handle humanitarian cases and search for casualties. There is also an urgent need for medical supplies and treatment services.
Field Escalation and Fears of Broader Conflict
Regions in southern Lebanon, extending toward deeper parts of the country beyond the Zahrani River, are witnessing rapid field developments. Recently, Hezbollah executed a wide series of military operations—reaching 30 in a single day. These targeted Israeli military vehicles and air defense systems. Simultaneously, the Israeli military has issued urgent warnings to southern residents and declared vast areas as “combat zones.” This mutual escalation is triggering international concern over the potential for further deterioration. In particular, there are worries about the displacement of large numbers of residents from border villages.
