Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced the deportation of all activists involved in the “Gaza Flotilla” from Israel, following the completion of procedures related to their detention after the ship was intercepted while attempting to reach the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said that authorities had finalized the deportation procedures for all the activists to their respective countries.
However, it did not provide further details regarding the number of those deported or their nationalities.
Intercepting the flotilla and detaining the activists
Israeli forces intercepted the ship belonging to the aid flotilla bound for Gaza.
The activists were then taken into Israel for questioning and legal proceedings related to their deportation.
The operation sparked international reactions and criticism from political and human rights groups,
particularly after videos circulated showing the treatment of some of the flotilla participants.
European diplomatic moves
The past few days have witnessed diplomatic activity from several European countries.
France, Belgium, and Italy summoned their Israeli ambassadors to protest the treatment of
a number of activists involved in the flotilla, including European citizens.
European officials also expressed concern regarding the circulating videos and demanded
that the detainees be treated in accordance with international law and that their rights be respected.
These developments come amidst ongoing international debate about the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
This is occurring against a backdrop of growing calls to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian
aid and guarantee freedom of movement for relief and humanitarian operations in the Strip.
