Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom revealed in a report that an alliance comprising the United States, Israel, and several regional countries has begun exploring long-term strategic options aimed at overthrowing the current Iranian government. The newspaper indicated that this approach is not merely a passing measure, but rather a strategic project intended to create the political and economic conditions necessary for a fundamental change in the regime in Tehran. It also emphasized that achieving this goal could take a considerable amount of time.
Economic blockade as a tool of maximum pressure
The report concluded that one of the most important findings of the parties involved was the need to reinstate the strict economic embargo on Iran as soon as possible. Planners believe this embargo is key to weakening the regime’s grip on power and cutting off its funding sources. Furthermore, the embargo creates a pressure environment within Iran that will push for the desired change.
“Loss of self-control” and power struggles
In a related development, Western diplomats warned of a growing sense of impunity within the Iranian government. These diplomats pointed to the escalating risks facing Iranian officials who have attempted to advance rapprochement with the United States, most notably President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
According to the newspaper, intelligence reports indicate that the attempts to harass or intimidate Pezeshkian and Araqchi during the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei are a dangerous sign. This suggests that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has crossed all usual boundaries in its dealings with the “moderate” political faction within the government.
Military takeover scenario
The newspaper quoted an official familiar with the intricacies of internal developments in Iran as saying that the disagreements between factions within the regime have reached a new peak following reports of recent understandings with Washington. The source explained that there is growing concern that the leaders of the Revolutionary Guard are moving toward a coup against the civilian leadership. It appears that the hardline faction is planning to completely remove Masoud Pezeshkian’s government in order to seize direct control of the state apparatus. This internal conflict places Iran in a critical phase of instability. Consequently, this situation reinforces the Western view that the regime is experiencing a rift that may be difficult to mend, given the increasing external pressures and internal military ambitions to seize power.
