Abu Dhabi, UAE – Emirates International Aluminum Company, the largest producer of “high-quality” aluminum in the world, announced the resumption of production operations at the Al Tawila Alumina Refining Refinery in Abu Dhabi.
Alumina production is expected to rise to 50% of full production capacity in the coming days. The refinery will reach its full production capacity by the end of this year.
The timing of the production increase at the Tawila alumina refinery depends on the supply chain conditions and the company’s alumina supply strategy. Currently, aluminum production at the Tawila smelter does not depend on the refinery reaching its full production capacity.
Al Tawila Refinery’s alumina production reached 2.4 million tons of alumina in 2025, meeting 46% of the company’s alumina needs during that year. Alumina is the main raw material used in aluminum smelters.
continued efforts
Abdul Nasser bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates International Aluminum Company, said: “The resumption of production operations at the Tawila alumina refinery represents an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to restart the company’s site in Tawila”. And strengthening its position as one of the most important and largest aluminum production facilities in the world. This achievement is due to the dedication and flexibility of the work team, and their pivotal role in restarting operations according to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
It is noteworthy that production operations at the Tawila alumina refinery stopped on March 28 as a result of the blatant Iranian attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone in Abu Dhabi. The refinery resumed production of alumina hydrate, the raw material used in alumina production, on June 24.
Al Tawila Alumina Refinery began production operations in 2019 and is located next to the company’s Al Tawila smelter in Abu Dhabi. Alumina is transported to the smelter’s storage facilities via a network of conveyor belts.
