Amman, Jordan – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Israeli plans to confiscate Islamic properties and endowments in the Bab al-Silsila neighborhood adjacent to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
It considered these measures a violation of international law and an attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem.
In a statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s complete rejection of
any steps targeting Islamic endowments or affecting the Arab and Islamic identity of occupied East Jerusalem.
It also emphasized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, in its entirety, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.
Jordan rejection of Israeli measures
Jordan stressed that attempts to confiscate properties and endowments surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque constitute a dangerous escalation.
These steps are part of policies aimed at imposing new realities on the ground in the holy city.
The Jordanian government called on the international community to take action to halt Israeli measures.
It also demanded respect for international resolutions concerning Jerusalem and its holy sites.
Emphasis on Hashemite custodianship
Jordan reaffirmed its commitment to the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
It also emphasized the role of the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department,
affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, in overseeing the affairs of the blessed mosque.
These developments come amidst ongoing tensions in Jerusalem.
Furthermore, Palestinian and Arab warnings are escalating regarding Israeli measures concerning the neighborhoods surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque
and their potential repercussions on the security and political situation in the region.
