New York, USA – The White House announced that US President Donald Trump held what it described as a “good” meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The meeting addressed ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries,

including expanding access for American companies to Chinese markets.

Additionally, they discussed increasing Chinese investment in US industrial sectors.

Economic and investment cooperation

The White House explained that several CEOs of major American companies participated in part of the bilateral meeting.

This came as part of discussions focused on revitalizing bilateral trade

and strengthening long-term economic partnerships between the world’s two largest economies.

The statement added that the two sides discussed issues related to the flow of sensitive raw materials,

primarily efforts to prevent the smuggling of fentanyl precursors into the United States.

They also discussed increasing Chinese imports of American agricultural products,

which would help reduce the trade deficit between the two countries.

The Strait of Hormuz and energy security

The meeting also addressed maritime security issues. And the statement affirmed both sides’ agreement on the necessity of keeping

the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure the free flow of global energy and the stability of oil markets.

The Chinese president also emphasized his rejection of any measures that would impede navigation in the strait or impose fees for its use.

Conversely, Beijing has expressed increasing interest in expanding its imports of US oil to reduce its reliance on sensitive maritime routes.

A common position on Iran

The White House confirmed that both sides agreed during the talks that Iran must not possess a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.

This reflects a shared position and a convergence of views on regional security.

The statement indicated that the meeting is part of broader efforts to reset US-China relations.

It also aims to strengthen direct communication channels on the most sensitive economic and security issues on the international stage.
