Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate announced on Saturday the arrest of 19 individuals wanted by the judiciary on various legal charges, in separate security operations across six Iraqi provinces. In an official statement, the Directorate explained that the arrests were carried out by its detachments from the intelligence and security departments of the 1st, 7th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, 22nd, and 23rd Military Divisions. The statement indicated that the arrests were based on precise intelligence and intensive field surveillance. The operations took place in the provinces of Baghdad, Diyala, Anbar, Maysan, Salah al-Din, and Kirkuk. The Directorate confirmed that all those arrested were handed over to the appropriate judicial and specialized authorities. They will face legal proceedings in accordance with established legal procedures.

This comes as an extension of the series of preemptive operations taking place across the country. Earlier on Friday, the Directorate announced the capture of a member of the ISIS terrorist organization in Anbar province. In a separate statement, the Directorate indicated that the operation was carried out through exceptional intelligence efforts. It was based on precise information from the 5th Division. Furthermore, it was conducted in joint cooperation with intelligence and forces from the 18th Brigade. These efforts resulted in a well-executed ambush in the “160-Kilometer” area of Rutba district in Anbar province.

The statement confirmed that the arrested terrorist was wanted by the judiciary under Article 4 of the Counter-Terrorism Law, due to his previous combat involvement with ISIS and his confrontations with Iraqi security forces. The necessary procedures were followed, and the accused was officially handed over to the requesting authority. This was done to complete the investigations and hold him legally accountable. These preemptive and successive strikes are part of the ongoing efforts of the Iraqi armed forces and intelligence agencies to enhance security and stability. These efforts also contribute to pursuing remnants of terrorist organizations. In addition, they help in apprehending wanted fugitives in various parts of the country.
