Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese Army announced the arrest of a man within Lebanese territory for impersonating an Iraqi security official.
The army confirmed that investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities
to uncover the circumstances of the case and the nature of his activities.
In an official statement, the Lebanese Army explained that the detainee
used forged documents to support his false identity.
The statement also indicated that security forces seized the military
uniform he wore during his activities and movements within Lebanon.
Investigations under judicial supervision
The Lebanese Army issued a statement confirming that the investigation of
the detained individual is being conducted under the supervision of the competent Lebanese judiciary,
as part of a security operation aimed at identifying any potential associates
and uncovering the objectives he sought to achieve by impersonating a security officer.
The Lebanese Army did not officially disclose the identity or nationality of the detained individual.
Nor did it specify the period during which he carried out these activities within Lebanese territory,
simply stating that legal proceedings against him are ongoing.
Seizure of forged documents
The Lebanese Army indicated that initial investigations revealed the detainee
used forged documents to lend an air of legitimacy to his movements and communications,
which necessitated security intervention and his arrest.
It added that the relevant authorities confiscated the military uniform and other items related to the case.
It explained that these items will be examined and analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
