Tehran, Iran – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei announced that his country has not yet reached a conclusion regarding the latest US proposal for a ceasefire. He confirmed that Tehran has not yet submitted any official response to the United States on the matter.
Baghaei explained that the Iranian position is still under consideration, as internal consultations continue regarding the US proposal. However, he indicated that no final decision has been reached, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
Diplomatic moves and indirect contacts
In a related development, diplomatic sources reported that Pakistan is playing a role in facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran. A spokesperson for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting regional stability, noting that contacts are ongoing without specifying a timeline for any potential agreement.
A Pakistani source also stated that US President Donald Trump has requested a swift response to the American proposal. The source indicated that the Iranian response may be forthcoming soon. This comes as no arrangements have yet been made for direct meetings between the two sides.
American optimism versus Iranian skepticism
For his part, US President Donald Trump said that “very good” talks had taken place in recent hours. He expressed his belief that a swift agreement to end the crisis was possible.
In contrast, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf cast doubt on reports of an imminent agreement. He considered some of these reports to be “political disinformation,” according to a post on the “X” platform.
The Strait of Hormuz issue is present in the discussions
Reports indicate that discussions between the two sides are still addressing sensitive issues, including the status of the Strait of Hormuz. These reports also suggest that reaching an understanding remains possible despite the existing political and military complexities in the region.
These developments come at a time when the region is cautiously awaiting any diplomatic breakthrough that could end the current escalation or lead to further tensions.
