Cairo, Egypt – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs called on Arab and international media outlets and foreign correspondents to exercise utmost accuracy when addressing issues and news related to Egyptian affairs, in light of the inaccurate information the Ministry has observed in some recent media coverage.
The ministry explained in a statement issued on Thursday that it is following with interest what some Arab and international media outlets are publishing regarding developments related to the country, noting that some of this coverage includes false and inaccurate news.
She also stressed the importance of foreign media and correspondents relying on information issued directly by official Egyptian authorities when covering news and topics related to Egyptian affairs, in order to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the information published for public opinion.
The Ministry of Transport clarifies the details of the “Tihama” ship case
In a separate context, the Egyptian Ministry of Transport issued a statement to clarify the details regarding the commercial ship “Tihama” which was attacked by the Houthis while sailing in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, categorically denying any connection between the ship’s operator and Egypt.
The ministry indicated that the ship flies the Tanzanian flag, while its primary ownership belongs to a Yemeni citizen, clarifying that the operating company is registered under the name “Blue Sea for Maritime Ship Management”.
The Ministry of Transport confirmed that the operating company is not registered with the Egyptian Chambers of Shipping, nor has it obtained any official license from the Egyptian Maritime Transport and Logistics Sector to practice maritime agency activity.
Denial of any Egyptian connection to the ship or its cargo
The Ministry of Transport stressed that the ship “Tihama” had never before entered any of the Egyptian ports, and was not on its way to the Egyptian ports when it was attacked.
The clarifications added that the ship was not carrying any shipments or goods belonging to Egyptian traders or entities, in response to what was raised in some media outlets regarding an Egyptian connection to the ship or its cargo.
This Egyptian clarification came in the wake of the Houthi attack targeting the ship as it passed through the Bab al-Mandab Strait off the Yemeni coast. The attack resulted in the deaths of six people, including four crew members and two members of the National Resistance’s relief team, as well as injuries to ten others and the complete loss of control of the vessel.
The Ministry of Transport concluded its statement by emphasizing that Egypt continues to monitor developments related to the security and safety of navigation in the Red and Mediterranean Seas and territorial waters, and its ongoing commitment to protecting the security of ships, sailors, and companies.
