Wassow, Poland – A pilot was killed when his plane crashed while participating in firefighting operations in a large forest area of eastern Poland. The tragic incident underscores the dangers of air operations involved in combating wildfires.
According to preliminary information from local authorities, the aircraft was dropping water on the fires when it suddenly lost altitude. The plane then crashed into the fire zone, becoming completely destroyed and hindering immediate access to the crash site.
Rescue and firefighting teams are continuing their operations in the area amidst challenging conditions, due to the spread of the flames, the difficult terrain, and the thick smoke. Meanwhile, an official investigation has been launched to determine the technical or operational causes of the accident.
Eastern Poland has been experiencing a heat wave and drought for several days, which has contributed to the expansion of the fires. As a result, authorities have deployed specialized aircraft and additional support teams to try to contain the situation. The measures also aim to prevent the fires from spreading to nearby residential areas.
At the same time, authorities mourned the deceased pilot, praising his role in the firefighting operations. They emphasized that working in this type of mission remains among the most dangerous due to the nature of the weather conditions and the unpredictable terrain.
