Quito, Ecuador – Ecuador is experiencing a new wave of armed violence, with at least six people killed in separate attacks. This comes amid escalating security tensions that have prompted authorities to impose curfews in several of the worst-affected areas.
Security sources said the attacks occurred in several neighborhoods within a few hours, indicating a coordinated escalation of violence linked to organized crime gangs operating in the country, particularly in light of the growing struggle for control of territory and drug trafficking routes.
The Ecuadorian government announced the deployment of additional security reinforcements on the streets, along with increased military and police patrols, in an attempt to contain the situation and prevent the violence from spreading to new areas, in addition to carrying out raids targeting the hideouts of armed gangs.
A nighttime curfew was also imposed in several affected cities, a move aimed at curbing armed movements and reducing risks to civilians. Authorities urged citizens to comply with security measures and cooperate with security forces.
These developments come at a time when Ecuador is facing increasing security challenges, with rising rates of organized crime and growing gang influence in some areas, presenting the government with a difficult test in restoring stability and establishing security control.
