Vatican City – In a further step reflecting the Holy See’s ongoing humanitarian role, the Vatican announced the dispatch of two new shipments of humanitarian aid to both Lebanon and Ukraine. This comes as part of its efforts to support those affected by the economic and humanitarian crises and escalating conflicts in both countries.
Church sources stated that the shipments include food, medicine, and urgent medical supplies, as well as logistical support for displaced persons and the most vulnerable groups. They also indicated that the distribution process will be carried out through church networks and partner organizations on the ground to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most directly.
This move comes amid Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis and the repercussions of the war in Ukraine, where civilians in both countries are facing increasing hardship and shortages of basic necessities.
The Vatican confirmed that this initiative is not the first, but rather part of a series of ongoing humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating suffering and promoting international solidarity. This is particularly true in areas of conflict and protracted crises.
Sources added that the Pope continues to emphasize the need to intensify international efforts to end humanitarian crises and open safe corridors for the unimpeded delivery of aid. He also stressed that “people first” is the principle guiding these initiatives.
