Kyiv, Ukraine – The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced on Saturday a new and comprehensive update of total Russian troop losses since the start of the military invasion on February 24, 2022.
According to the statement issued by the General Staff, the number of Russian military personnel killed and wounded has risen to 1,324,690. This figure reflects the intensity of the ongoing battles on various Ukrainian fronts.
Ongoing human bleeding
The statement, published on the General Staff’s official Facebook page and reported by the Ukrainian national news agency Ukrinform, indicated that 1,230 Russian soldiers were neutralized (killed or wounded) in the past 24 hours alone.
These figures come at a time when the front lines, particularly in the eastern and southern regions, are witnessing intense offensive and counter-offensive operations. These operations are depleting the manpower of both sides.
The toll of destroyed military equipment
Regarding material losses, the Ukrainian General Staff provided a detailed breakdown of the amount of Russian equipment destroyed since the beginning of the war. The figures were as follows:
Armor and artillery: 11,892 tanks, 24,458 armored fighting vehicles, and 40,635 artillery systems were destroyed.
Air and missile defense: 1,753 multiple launch rocket systems and 1,353 air defense systems were shot down and neutralized.
Air Force and Drones: 435 warplanes and 350 helicopters destroyed, as well as a record number of drones shot down, reaching 255,862 aircraft, and 4,549 cruise missiles.
Naval and logistical forces: Destruction of 33 warships, two submarines, 91,422 vehicles and fuel tanks, in addition to 4,136 units of special technical equipment.
Challenges of field verification
As the “war of numbers” between Kyiv and Moscow continues, international observers emphasize the difficulty of verifying these figures from independent sources in real time. This is due to the nature of the ongoing military operations and the extreme secrecy imposed by the Russian Ministry of Defense regarding its official losses. These statistics, if accurate, indicate that the war has entered a phase of attrition unprecedented in modern history. Human losses have exceeded one million, placing immense pressure on the Russian war machine. This impacts its ability to replace the personnel and advanced equipment being destroyed at an accelerating rate.
