Paris – French President Emmanuel Macron has emphasized the necessity of mobilizing international efforts to support the Lebanese government in its quest to enforce sovereignty and restrict arms possession exclusively to official state institutions. Macron asserted that Beirut reclaiming its security and sovereign decision-making is a fundamental pillar for Middle East stability, noting that Paris is closely monitoring steps to strengthen the rule of law in Lebanon. Accordingly, supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty is a focal point of current French movements, aimed at preventing the country from being embroiled in regional conflicts that harm its national interests.
Collective Efforts for Sovereignty: How Does Macron Plan to Empower the Lebanese Army?
The French President pointed out that the goal of arms control requires internal consensus backed by international agreement, confirming that France is working with its partners to provide political and logistical cover for the Army and legitimate security forces. Obviously, the Elysée views strengthening the military institution as the first practical step toward implementing international resolutions and preventing armed formations outside the state framework. As a result, Macron called on the international community to increase contributions to the arming and training of the Lebanese Armed Forces as the guarantor of national unity and border stability.
Horizons for a Political Solution: Warnings Against External Interference in Beirut
Concluding his remarks, Macron renewed his call to all regional parties to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and refrain from using it as an arena for settling accounts. Certainly, Paris insists that the solution must be “purely Lebanese” at its core, while emphasizing the need for a supportive international environment committed to UN resolutions. Accordingly, supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty remains contingent on the political will of all Lebanese factions, amid assurances that France will remain a strong ally to Beirut in its journey to restore its leading role in the region.
