Chelsea Football Club announced on Wednesday evening the dismissal of their manager, Liam Rosenior, due to the team’s recent poor results, the latest of which was a 3-0 defeat against Brighton.
Chelsea Football Club announced today the termination of Liam Rosenior’s contract as manager. In an official statement, the club said: “On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Liam and his staff for their efforts during their time with the team”.
The statement continued: “Liam has demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism and integrity since taking over mid-season”.
The statement explained: “This was not an easy decision, but recent results and performances have not met the club’s expectations, and there is still much to be achieved in the remainder of the season”.
It continued: “Callum McFarlane will take charge of the team on an interim basis until the end of the season, supported by the coaching and administrative staff, as we strive to qualify for European competitions and compete in the FA Cup”.
It concluded: “The club is currently conducting a comprehensive evaluation to select the most suitable manager to lead the team in the long term”.
Rosenior took over as Chelsea coach on January 8, succeeding Italian Enzo Maresca, who also left due to poor results.
During his tenure, the team played 23 matches, achieving 11 victories and two draws, compared to 10 defeats, including five consecutive losses.
Chelsea also exited the English League Cup against Arsenal, and were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.
The team currently occupies seventh place in the English Premier League standings with 48 points, seven points behind the Champions League qualification places.
