Islamabad, Pakistan – The Pakistani military announced on Thursday that its navy had successfully test-fired a domestically produced surface-to-surface anti-ship missile. This development demonstrates the accelerating pace of technological and military advancements within the country’s naval arsenal.
Superior accuracy and advanced guidance system
The Pakistani military stated in an official statement that the missile “accurately hit its target at high speed and long range.” This occurred during live-fire exercises conducted at sea. The test was also attended by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, accompanied by a select group of Pakistani scientists and engineers involved in the defense program.
This missile represents a significant upgrade over previous missile systems, featuring an advanced and intelligent guidance system and enhanced maneuverability. These characteristics were specifically designed “to evade enemy defenses and threats, and adapt to changing battlefield conditions to reach the target with maximum effectiveness,” according to the statement. The statement also described the launch as clear proof of Pakistan’s ability to conduct precise, long-range strikes.
Strengthening deterrence and regional security
The military statement said the exercise demonstrates the Pakistani Navy’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a “credible maritime deterrent” within the conventional domain. It also underscores the importance of ensuring maritime security and stability in the strategic Indian Ocean region. During the exercise, Admiral Naveed Ashraf emphasized that these indigenous capabilities contribute to strengthening national sovereignty and safeguarding maritime economic interests.
It is worth noting that the Pakistani military regularly conducts tests of indigenously developed missiles (ballistic and cruise). Its ambitious missile program is primarily aimed at maintaining a balance of power and countering any potential threats amid ongoing border tensions with neighboring India. Today’s test further underscores the success of its self-reliant defense manufacturing strategy, reducing dependence on foreign imports in the precision missile sector.
