Moscow, Russia – Russian President’s Special Envoy for Investment Kirill Dmitriev told Sky News Arabia that the Russian economy is currently in a better position compared to several European economies. This comes amid what he described as increasing economic challenges within the European continent.
Warning of an energy crisis in Europe
Dmitriev explained that Europe could face what he called an “energy tsunami” in June and July. He indicated that this is linked to the potential repercussions of energy supply crises and tensions related to the Strait of Hormuz.
The Russian president’s envoy added that any disruptions in global energy markets could directly impact price stability and supply security in European countries. He emphasized that this would increase the economic pressure on their governments.
Criticism of Western stances on the war
Regarding the war in Ukraine, the Russian envoy asserted that the roots of the crisis lie with the Joe Biden administration. He explained that the most productive dialogue at this stage, in his view, is with the Donald Trump administration.
He added that Russia believes Western pressure has not yielded tangible results in changing the course of Russian policies or influencing Moscow’s positions.
Accusations against European and British countries
Dmitriev also accused forces in Europe and Britain of seeking to obstruct the political settlement of the crisis. He further asserted that the pressure and sanctions imposed on Russia had failed to achieve their stated objectives.
The Russian envoy concluded his remarks by emphasizing that his country continues to adapt to international economic and political changes. This comes amidst ongoing tensions with the West and the multifaceted nature of the conflict.
