Tehran, Iran – In an exceptional and unprecedented move reflecting the depth of the danger now facing the Iranian capital, the Iranian National Security Council issued an urgent appeal to the residents of Tehran.
The council urged them to leave the city as soon as possible, following the coordinated military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel.
These strikes targeted vital and highly important leadership sites on Iranian soil.
Urgent security appeal and voluntary evacuation
The Supreme National Security Council, the highest security body in the Iranian government,
issued an official statement urging citizens to remain calm and avoid panic.
The statement explicitly stated: “You should move to other locations and cities if you are able to do so.”
This is a clear indication of the very real possibility of renewed airstrikes on the country’s political and administrative capital.
There are growing fears that the attacks could escalate to include residential areas and vital infrastructure.
Indeed, the possible renewal of attacks in Tehran has raised widespread anxiety and uncertainty.
Supply situation and basic services
The National Security Council reassured the public regarding their daily needs, emphasizing that there is no shortage of essential goods at present.
However, it simultaneously stressed the importance of avoiding gatherings in shopping malls, large markets, and crowded areas.
It warned that such large gatherings could become targets or lead to disasters under the current exceptional security circumstances.
Many people in Tehran are concerned about access to supplies amidst ongoing tension.
Emergency regulatory decisions
In addition to the evacuation order, the council announced a series of emergency regulatory decisions affecting various sectors. In the education sector, the council decided to keep schools and universities closed at all levels until further notice.
Meanwhile, it confirmed that banks will remain open to the public to ensure the continuity of financial transactions and prevent any economic disruption. As for government services, they will be subject to a significant reduction in non-essential services. This is with the aim of limiting gatherings and easing the pressure on state facilities during these exceptional circumstances. These measures aim to protect citizens in Tehran during this period of instability.
Tehran faces ambiguity
This extraordinary statement comes amidst widespread confusion and anxiety gripping the Iranian capital, Tehran. This follows extensive international reports indicating the success of the initial strikes in Operations “Epic Wrath” and “Lion’s Roar,” which reportedly destroyed highly sensitive command centers, including air defense systems and facilities of high security and strategic importance.
Since the early morning hours, Tehran’s streets have been witnessing a mass exodus unseen in decades. Long lines of cars are forming on main roads leading to neighboring provinces.
Families are scrambling to secure fuel and supplies before fleeing the city, which now faces the looming threat of a wider and more intense confrontation.
