Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty stated that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is considering the invitation he received from US President Donald Trump to join the so-called “Peace Council.” This comes within the framework of ongoing communications and consultations regarding a number of regional and international issues and approaches to ending conflicts.
The Foreign Minister’s statement came amidst intensive diplomatic activity in Cairo. This activity coincides with rapid developments in several regional issues, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Egypt continues to play a pivotal role in efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent a new wave of violence.
During political consultations with his Bosnian counterpart, Elmedin Konnakovic, Abdel-Aty outlined Egypt’s perspective on the developments in the Gaza Strip. He also emphasized the necessity of moving forward with the implementation of the second phase of the US plan, including the activation of the Palestinian technocratic committee following its formation, as well as the deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire and ensure a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
The Foreign Minister stressed that the next phase must pave the way for the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. It must also ensure the improvement of the humanitarian situation and create the conditions necessary for launching a serious political process that achieves lasting stability. He affirmed that Cairo will continue its efforts, in coordination with active international and regional parties, to ensure the consolidation of the ceasefire and the protection of civilians.
Abdel-Aty indicated that Egypt’s actions stem from clear principles based on supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and rejecting any attempts to impose unilateral solutions or a new reality by force. He emphasized that security and stability in the region will only be achieved through a just and comprehensive settlement.
This diplomatic activity comes at a time of increasing international pressure to find effective mechanisms for managing the post-ceasefire phase in Gaza, amidst a leading Egyptian role that enjoys regional and international appreciation. This role is considered a key element of balance in the equation of security and stability in the Middle East.
