Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry affirmed that Iranian funds frozen abroad remain the full sovereign right of the Iranian state. It emphasized that there are no legal or political restrictions limiting Tehran’s right to access these funds immediately upon their release.
The ministry spokesperson stated that Iran does not recognize any attempts to link these funds to negotiating or political conditions. He also deemed the continued freezing of these funds in several countries an “unjust measure” that must be addressed through diplomatic and legal channels.
He added that his country is continuing to pursue this matter with the relevant parties in order to recover its financial assets. He emphasized that any use or transfer of these funds must be carried out solely in accordance with the decision of the Iranian authorities, as they are sovereign funds and cannot be subject to external restrictions.
The spokesperson noted that the issue of frozen funds is part of a series of points of contention between Iran and several Western countries. This comes amidst ongoing economic sanctions and tensions related to the nuclear program, complicating efforts to reach new understandings on the matter.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by emphasizing that this issue will remain open on the diplomatic table until what it described as “Iran’s full financial rights are restored without preconditions.”
