Muscat, Oman – In a high-level diplomatic move that reinforces Muscat’s role as a bridge for regional dialogue, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman, received Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Muscat on Tuesday. This meeting was part of a series of intensive talks aimed at bridging differences on the most pressing regional and international issues.
Omani support for the Iranian-American negotiation tracks
The Oman News Agency reported that the meeting focused primarily on the latest developments in the Iranian-American negotiations. Sultan Haitham bin Tariq listened to detailed explanations from the Iranian side regarding these negotiations and their various current stages.
During the meeting, the Sultan expressed his full support and wishes for the success of these efforts. He emphasized his aspiration to reach a peaceful and final settlement on all outstanding issues, foremost among them the resumption of the free flow of maritime traffic and the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, the meeting addressed the nuclear issue and related regional issues and challenges.
Securing International Navigation and Memorandum of Understanding
This visit follows fruitful meetings held on Monday between Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament. Discussions focused on the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, particularly regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on the X platform, Minister al-Busaidi affirmed his country’s commitment to international law and to ensuring safe passage through the strait without the imposition of fees. He emphasized the importance of utilizing current diplomacy to support regional peace efforts.
Strengthening cooperation and good neighborliness
For its part, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Omani and Iranian sides emphasized during the talks the necessity of strengthening cooperation and good neighborliness in a way that serves the common interests of both countries.
The two sides also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region. Both sides stressed the importance of protecting international waterways and ensuring the security of navigation as a fundamental pillar of regional stability.
