Mogadishu, Somalia – The humanitarian crisis caused by the worst drought in years is worsening. The United Nations has announced $10 million in funding to support emergency relief operations in various affected areas across the country.

UN aid agencies said the prolonged drought has displaced thousands of families. It has also caused a sharp decline in crop yields and led to a critical shortage of water resources. This has increased malnutrition rates among children and put the lives of the population at increased risk.

The international organization confirmed that the new funding will be urgently directed towards providing food, water, and basic healthcare, as well as supporting communities that have lost their livelihoods due to harsh weather conditions.

The United Nations warns that if the situation continues as is, it could lead the country to an even greater humanitarian catastrophe, necessitating broad international intervention and additional funding to save millions of affected people.
