Cairo, Egypt – Star Ahmed El Sakka is preparing to return to the world of action and suspense, after the official announcement of preparations for the sequel to the film Mafia, one of the most prominent action films in the history of Egyptian cinema, which achieved widespread popular success when it was first released in 2002, and is returning after more than 24 years amid great anticipation from the public.
Sherif Arafa and Medhat El-Adl are leading the preparations.
The announcement of the new project generated widespread interaction on social media, especially with the confirmation of Ahmed El Sakka’s participation in the lead role, along with the return of the “Mafia” name to the forefront as one of the films that made a distinct mark on Egyptian action cinema in the early 2000s. Screenwriter Medhat El Adl revealed that the project is still in the pre-production phase, explaining that the script is being written by director Sherif Arafa in collaboration with a writing workshop. He confirmed that the final version of the script is not yet complete, pending the determination of the start date for filming and the official release in the coming period.
The story of the first part
The film Mafia is considered one of the most important works in Ahmed El Sakka’s artistic career. Its events revolve around the character of “Hussein,” a young man who is expelled from the military academy, before traveling abroad and becoming involved in the world of international mafia. Later, Egyptian intelligence recruits him for a highly dangerous secret mission in exchange for giving him a new chance at life.
The first part featured a large number of stars, including Mona Zaki, Mustafa Shaaban, Abbas Abu Al-Hassan, and Tawfiq Abdel Hamid, while it was directed by Sherif Arafa and its story was written by Medhat El-Adl, making it one of the most influential action films of its generation.

The Egyptian cinema audience is eagerly awaiting the new installment, especially given the huge development that action films have witnessed in recent years, amid expectations that the film will offer a different experience that combines nostalgia for the success of the first part with modern cinematic techniques, in an attempt to re-present one of the most popular works with a more exciting and thrilling spirit.
