Dubai, UAE – CNN said that the UAE continues to accelerate its plans to boost local manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports. As part of a national strategy aimed at enhancing economic, food, and pharmaceutical security, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and their impact on global supply chains.
The network added that the UAE’s mission, which over the past five years has attracted entrepreneurs and companies to develop projects, has become clear. It consists of reducing dependence on imports and accelerating the pace of local production. Considering direct domestic investment in the national economy a “priority,” as it is an investment in stability, economic sovereignty, and the future of future generations.
Strait of Hormuz.. Practical test
The network noted that sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food security, and robotics have become at the heart of a broader national strategy. Noting that the UAE launched a new national resilience program at the end of April. It aims to secure vital supplies of food, medicine and industrial products.
The network reported that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz for more than two months brought back memories of the fragility of global trade routes. The pressures were not limited to oil only, but extended to food, fertilizers and industrial supplies.
She added that the UAE considers what is happening a practical test of a strategy that has been prepared for years to enhance sufficiency and local production.
She stressed that the state decided to diversify its sources of income and not rely heavily on oil and gas. Pointing out that non-oil sectors are currently witnessing rapid growth as an economic necessity.
Manufacturing sector flexibility
The network highlighted long-term investments that are beginning to bear fruit, including Sellal Agricultural Technologies. Founded in 2020, it grows fruits and vegetables in desert conditions. This is part of efforts aimed at increasing local production, reducing imports, and enhancing food security in the long term.
The network quoted industrial sector officials as confirming that the current crisis has demonstrated the resilience of the UAE’s manufacturing sector. Supplies within the country were not interrupted despite the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
She also explained that the Covid-19 pandemic revealed the extent to which many countries depend on importing medicines. This prompted the UAE to expand its capabilities in manufacturing medicines locally, and bring production chains closer to the local market. Pointing out that the UAE possesses significant industrial production capacities that have not yet been fully exploited, providing ample opportunities for industrial expansion in the coming period.
The network concluded its report by noting that countries around the world are today rethinking the sources of real economic growth. While the UAE’s answer seems clear: “Growth starts from within.”
