Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a move that reflects the UAE’s move towards promoting sustainable industry and consolidating a low-emission industrial model. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced the activation of green certificates for factories within the National Green Certificates Program. This was during her participation in the “Make in the Emirates 2026” initiative.

Stimulating industrial facilities

The initiative aims to encourage industrial establishments to adopt best practices in energy efficiency and sustainability. Through a comprehensive assessment system covering the areas of energy, water, emissions and innovation. This contributes to accelerating the adoption of clean technologies and setting national performance standards that enhance the UAE’s competitiveness and support the achievement of the goals of the UAE Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050.

The system also allows factories to apply for certifications according to specific criteria, in addition to benefiting from competitive incentives and benefits that enhance their transition towards a low-emission industrial model. It supports its presence in regional and global markets.

Eng. Sherif Al-Ulama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, stressed that activating green certificates for factories constitutes a strategic step within the ministry’s efforts to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable industry. By raising energy and water efficiency and enhancing resource management in the industrial sector.

By developing an integrated system based on accurate measurement indicators and clear standards, ensuring the application of best practices and enhancing operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.

He said: “The National Green Certification Program contributes to rationalizing resource consumption and improving the quality of the industrial environment. It supports the development of advanced industrial infrastructure capable of keeping pace with economic growth and future developments, thus enhancing the UAE’s position as a sustainable global industrial center.

He added: “The initiative supports the achievement of the “We Are the Emirates 2031” vision and contributes to accelerating the achievement of climate neutrality. And consolidating the country’s position as a global center for innovation in the fields of sustainability.

In mid-2024, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure launched the Green Certification Initiative for Commercial Buildings. With the aim of promoting environmental sustainability and achieving a balance between economic development and the conservation of natural resources. By encouraging the adoption of environmentally friendly building practices.
