Doha, Qatar – The State of Qatar strongly condemned the targeting of an Emirati tanker belonging to ADNOC as it transited the Strait of Hormuz.
It considered this attack a clear violation of international law
and a direct threat to freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints.
Condemnation of the violation and rejection of escalation
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack, carried out using two drones,
as a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
It affirmed its categorical rejection of such attacks, which threaten the security and stability of the region.
The Ministry stressed that targeting commercial vessels constitutes
a dangerous escalation that cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
Qatar reiterated its complete rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for political pressure.
It also called for its immediate and unconditional reopening.
Full solidarity with the UAE
She explained that freedom of navigation in this vital waterway is a fundamental and non-negotiable principle,
given its crucial importance in protecting the economic interests of the region and the world.
Doha expressed its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and declared its support
for the measures it is taking to protect its assets and ensure its maritime security.
It also called for an end to attacks on the assets of states
and for efforts to strengthen regional stability through adherence to international laws and norms.
