Dubai, UAE – The UAE Circular Economy Council held its first meeting of 2026, chaired by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism.
The meeting focused on ways to accelerate the transition to a circular economy model
and enhance the role of innovation in developing the food industry and supporting food security.
Accelerating the transition towards a circular economy
The meeting discussed the latest national policies and initiatives
aimed at enhancing resource efficiency and developing governance frameworks.
This ensures the effective implementation of policies on the ground.
Investment opportunities in circular economy sectors were also reviewed.
Bin Touq emphasized that the UAE continues to develop its circular
economy system in accordance with global best practices.
This contributes to reducing reliance on imports and enhancing economic sustainability.
The Council stressed the importance of the food sector as a fundamental pillar of food security.
This is particularly critical given the challenges facing global supply chains.
It also emphasized the need to adopt circular policies that enhance the efficiency of production, storage, and distribution.
Partnerships and projects to promote sustainability
New mechanisms to enhance the sector’s readiness and resilience were also reviewed.
Emphasis was placed on supporting innovation and modern technologies to improve the efficiency of supply chains and reduce waste.
The meeting addressed several national initiatives and pilot projects.
In addition, progress on the “Naseej” project, which aims to transform the textile sector into a sustainable circular model, was reviewed.
The Council stressed the importance of expanding partnerships between the public and private sectors.
Furthermore, it emphasized the need to move forward with implementing policies that support the circular economy.
This enhances national competitiveness and supports the achievement of the country’s Sustainable Development Goals.
