Dubai, UAE – Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Fahad, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment,
affirmed that the UAE represents an inspiring international model in adopting innovative policies and projects
aimed at preserving natural resources and achieving sustainable development.
In a statement on the occasion of Earth Day, celebrated on April 22, bin Fahad explained
that the UAE embraces environmental protection as an ongoing development path that aligns with the UAE Vision 2031.
He emphasized that this is not merely a fleeting annual activity.
Furthermore, he noted that the UAE’s leadership is embodied in a series of strategic initiatives.
These initiatives include expanding renewable energy, restoring ecological habitats, and promoting global climate awareness.
Giant energy projects
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation explained that the UAE has made significant strides
in the clean energy sector through major projects such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
and the Shams 1 solar power plant in Abu Dhabi.
These projects contribute effectively to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy security.
Regarding biodiversity, he noted the UAE’s success in establishing more than 49 terrestrial and marine protected areas.
In addition, the Global Biorepository was launched in Dubai.
This project represents a radical shift towards an era of proactive genetic
conservation to protect endangered species and secure the future of living resources.
Innovation in smart agriculture
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation addressed the UAE’s efforts
in developing the sustainable agriculture sector by supporting hydroponic, vertical, and smart farming technologies
aimed at significantly reducing water consumption and enhancing the national food security system.
He noted that these initiatives align with this year’s Earth Day theme, “Reclaiming the Earth.”
Therefore, the UAE is focusing on rehabilitating ecosystems and expanding green spaces.
These efforts also support advanced technological innovations in water desalination
and environmental management, ensuring the sustainability of resources for future generations.
Corporate social responsibility and climate action
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation noted that the theme
for the 2026 celebrations highlights the role of individuals and communities in addressing climate change.
He also pointed out that this year’s official design, which depicts the Earth
as a flower in human hands, reflects the collective responsibility for protecting the planet.
He affirmed that the UAE is proud of its ability to protect its land and environment while continuously striving
for leadership in renewable energy and power generation technologies.
He further emphasized that broad community participation in sustainable practices is the fundamental guarantee
for enhancing the country’s position among the world’s most sustainable nations.
