Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship and Customs and Ports Security announced that residents whose residency permits expired while they were abroad will be allowed to return to the UAE without needing a new entry visa.
This will be in effect for one month, starting February 28, 2026. The Authority clarified that the decision includes residents whose residency permits expired
while they were outside the country and who were unable to return due to airspace closures
or flight suspensions resulting from the current situation in the region.
It also confirmed that the decision allows them to enter the UAE until March 31, 2026,
and they can rectify their legal status without incurring additional financial burdens.
Facilities for residents affected by emergency conditions
The authority confirmed that this decision comes in response to the exceptional circumstances that prevented a number of residents
from returning to the country in time to renew their residency permits, due to the disruption of air travel and the closure of airspace in some regions.
It indicated that allowing these residents to return without requiring a new visa aims to facilitate procedures for them.
Furthermore, it gives them an opportunity to regularize their legal status upon arrival in the country.
A humanitarian approach and family reunification
The authority explained that the decision reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach to dealing with emergencies
and its commitment to easing the burden on residents and enabling them to continue their lives and work within the country.
It added that the decision also takes into account the reunification of families residing in the country,
particularly within the framework of the “Year of the Family” initiatives.
Furthermore, it grants the head of the family or a family member currently
abroad the opportunity to return to the country and resume their life with their family.
Readiness to ensure service continuity
The authority confirmed the continued implementation of emergency plans and business continuity measures at the country’s ports and airports, in cooperation with relevant authorities.
This is to ensure smooth procedures for travelers and address any issues related to flight delays or reschedulings.
The authority urged all stakeholders to follow official channels for any updates or regulatory measures related to these circumstances.
It also emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest levels of readiness to ensure the continuity of services and provide necessary support to travelers and visitors.
