Tokyo, Japan – Japan Airlines (JAL) announced the preemptive cancellation of 48 domestic flights as Typhoon Bavi approached the Japanese coast. This measure was taken to ensure the safety of passengers and crew amid forecasts of severe weather conditions.
The airline explained that the cancellations included flights to and from airports in areas expected to be affected by the typhoon. JAL also confirmed that it is continuously monitoring the weather situation in coordination with the Japan Meteorological Agency and other relevant authorities.
The typhoon is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain, potentially causing significant disruptions to air and sea transport. Additionally, there is a risk of flooding and landslides in some areas. This has prompted Japanese authorities to issue warnings to residents, urging them to take precautions and follow safety instructions.
Japan Airlines confirmed it will offer rebooking or refund options for passengers affected by flight cancellations. Passengers are advised to check official flight channels for updates before heading to airports.
Japanese authorities are preparing to deploy emergency teams and raise the level of preparedness to address any potential impacts of the typhoon. This comes as its path continues to be monitored and its impact on various regions assessed in the coming hours.
