Arlington, USA – The Egyptian national team achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history, after defeating Australia in a penalty shootout. This came after the match ended in a 1-1 draw after both regulation and extra time, in the Round of 32 match held at Dallas Stadium.
This qualification marks the Pharaohs’ first appearance in the World Cup round of 16 after four participations in the tournament. With this achievement, the national team writes a new chapter in its World Cup history.
Egypt dominated the first half, with Emam Ashour opening the scoring in the 13th minute. On the other hand, Australia equalized in the second half with an own goal by Mohamed Hany in the 55th minute.
