Paris, France – Hervé Renard, the new coach of the Tunisian national team, spoke about taking over the leadership of the “Eagles of Carthage” during the 2026 World Cup, stressing that events accelerated significantly following the departure of former coach Sabri Lamouchi.
The Tunisian Football Federation had assigned the task to Renard until the end of the World Cup, following the dismissal of Lamouchi after the team’s crushing 5-1 defeat to Sweden in the opening round of the group stage.
Renard told the French newspaper Le Parisien: “Things developed very quickly in the last few hours, and there was not enough time to think or hesitate before accepting the mission”.
The French coach added: “We are aware of the magnitude of the challenge that awaits us in the next two matches, but we will work hard to give our best and achieve positive results against Japan and the Netherlands”.
The Tunisian national team hopes to correct its course during the two remaining rounds of Group F, which also includes the national teams of Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands, in order to maintain its hopes of qualifying for the next round.
