At the start of the second half, Tottenham demanded a penalty kick after Omar Marmoush fell inside the penalty area, but the referee decided not to award it.
Marmoush returned to threaten Newcastle’s goal in the 59th minute, after making a remarkable individual effort before shooting a ball that went past the post.
Against the run of play, Newcastle took advantage of one of their chances in the 62nd minute. Anthony Illanga succeeded in scoring the first goal, putting the home side in front of a difficult task.
