Cairo, Egypt – The 14th Civil Circuit of the New Cairo Primary Court has set September 6, 2026, as the date for Egyptian national team captain and Trabzonspor player Mohamed Salah to appear in person before the court to take the decisive oath. This comes in a lawsuit concerning fees for legal, administrative, and consulting services. The lawsuit, numbered 7826 of 2025, was filed by lawyer Amr Faragallah Morsi Abdel-Tawab. The lawyer is demanding that Salah be obligated to pay financial dues he claims are for legal, administrative, and consulting services he provided to the player in previous years.

According to Egyptian media reports, the court ordered Mohamed Salah to take a decisive oath denying that the lawyer had performed the legal and administrative work in question. He was also ordered to deny receiving any fees or charges for that work. Moreover, the court warned that if the player fails to take the oath or refuses to do so without a legal justification, he will face the legal consequences stipulated for refusing to take an oath.

The dispute stems from a lawsuit filed by the lawyer in September 2025, seeking fees he claimed were owed for legal and administrative work, consultations, and court cases he handled on behalf of Mohamed Salah. The claims also included compensation for material and moral damages he alleged he suffered as a result of not receiving his dues. According to documents cited in published reports, the lawsuit also included claims related to damages the plaintiff alleged had harmed his professional standing and reputation as a lawyer. Furthermore, the lawyer left the determination of the compensation amount to the court.

The lawyer based his claim, according to reports, on a general power of attorney issued in 2012. He stated that it authorized him to handle legal proceedings and matters related to Salah. Additionally, he indicated that the power of attorney remained valid until August 2025, when he was notified of his withdrawal from representing the player. The legal dispute centers on the extent to which the work for which the lawyer is seeking fees was performed. It also centers on whether he is entitled to these fees.

The decisive oath is one of the means of proof that a party to a dispute may resort to in order to resolve a specific point of contention. The party to whom the oath is directed, whether to take it or refuse, has legal consequences according to the rules governing it. The court decided to postpone ruling on expenses and attorney’s fees until the dispute is resolved. In addition, no final judgment has yet been issued on the merits of the claim. Furthermore, setting a date for the oath-taking does not constitute proof of debt or the validity of either party’s claims.
